Stop Guessing Downforce & Aero Balance
Bolting on wings, splitters, and diffusers without baseline data leads to unnecessary straight-line drag, aerodynamic instability, and unpredictable handling at high speeds. The Smi3D Aero Baseline establishes a certified numerical benchmark for your race vehicle, showing exactly how airflow interacts with your bodywork and underfloor.
What’s Included
On-Site Laser Scanning: High-precision optical 3D scan capturing exterior panels, floor pan, exhaust system, driveline and suspension components.
Track Ride-Height Correction: Digital repositioning of wheels and suspension from lift droop to true track static ride height.
Watertight Mesh Modeling: Sealing of air intake, panel seams, and recesses using Rhino 8 ShrinkWrap technology to create a 100% manifold simulation mesh.
Cloud-Based CFD Solving: Full-vehicle external aerodynamics simulation run in AirShaper at racing speeds.
30-Minute Engineering Consultation: One-on-one video session reviewing key balance data, high-drag zones, and priority modifications.
Technical Deliverables
Full Engineering Report (PDF):
Total vehicle downforce and aerodynamic lift values (kg & N).
Coefficient of drag (Cd) and frontal drag area (Cd · A).
Aerodynamic balance (% front downforce vs. % rear downforce).
High-resolution 3D surface pressure plots highlighting high-pressure and suction zones.
Velocity streamlines showing airflow separation, vortices, and wake behavior.
CFD-Ready 3D Geometry: 1x Watertight OBJ / STL file for internal engineering archives.
Requirements & Prerequisites
2-Post Lift Access: The car must be positioned on a 2-post lift to allow clear optical line-of-sight across the floor pan and diffusers.
Surface Cleanliness: Chassis underbody, wheel wells, and panels must be pressure-washed and free of heavy mud, oil buildup, or grease.
Static Ride Height Data: Customer must provide measured front and rear track ride heights taken on level ground before the scan.
Closed Engine Bay: Baseline testing simulates external aerodynamics; internal radiator/engine bay flow requires porous-media setup and is available as a bespoke add-on.
The 4-Step Process
Booking & Intake: Complete order and submit your chassis specs, racing class, and ride height measurements.
Scanning Session: On-site optical laser scanning takes approximately 4 hours.
Mesh Preparation: Mesh alignment, cleaning, and watertight conversion in Rhino 8.
CFD & Delivery: Simulation is solved and delivered via a comprehensive PDF report within 5–7 business days, followed by a remote debrief.
